This is from the archives, but a friend of mine is there at the moment (Ravi) and his photos made me look back at mine and I thought I would share them too! :)
Munnar (Malayalam: മൂന്നാർ) is a town and hill station located in the Idukki district of the southwestern Indian state of Kerala. Munnar is situated at around 1,600 metres (5,200 ft) above mean sea level, in the Western Ghats range of mountains. [wiki]
The climate is perfect for tea, and it mkaes for an amazing experience as the clouds roll in over the peaks and decend down into the plantations bellow.
It is in places like this, that the tranquil and peaceful 'old ways' persist.
It is not a trip to Munnar without some locally grown and brewed tea!
The Nilgiri is the name given to a range of mountains spread across the borders among the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala, and is hope to some truly amazing and endangered species hidden in the hills...
The Niligiri Tahr is just one of them. I've never been so excited to see a goat before now! :)
Eravikulam National Park, close to Munnar is a great place to spot the Tahr.
The landscape is stunning...
