163-180/365

I have fallen rather behind with posting my 365 project, so rather than trying to catch up with every image individually, I have selected five photographs from June that best represent the month.

They range from abandoned machinery being reclaimed by the forest to quiet family moments, performance, exploration and travel. Looking back at them together, I am struck by how often they deal with scale, solitude and the relationship between people and their surroundings.

13 June — Reclaimed

The rusting shell of an abandoned car lies half-hidden in dense woodland, its faded bodywork gradually disappearing beneath the surrounding vegetation. Dappled sunlight picks it out from the forest, creating a contrast between mechanical decay and vigorous new growth.

I love how the car initially feels out of place, yet also seems to have become part of the landscape. Nature is not simply growing around it; it is slowly absorbing it.

24 June — Into the Depths

A caver traverses a suspended rope inside a vast limestone chamber. Surrounded by towering rock formations, the small figure provides a dramatic sense of scale and captures both the vulnerability and exhilaration of underground exploration.

The person occupies only a tiny part of the frame, but that is precisely what makes the image work. The immense cave becomes the real subject, with the human figure revealing just how extraordinary the space is.

25 June — Holding the Light

A young performer kneels alone beneath a green spotlight, extending one hand into the beam. The large area of darkness above her and the restrained gesture make the moment feel mysterious and almost ceremonial.

This was one of those brief stage moments where the lighting, posture and empty space all came together. The photograph feels less like documentation of a performance and more like a still from an unfinished story.

27 June — At the Water’s Edge

Two children in life jackets sit on opposite handrails at the submerged end of a wooden jetty, quietly facing the open water. The symmetry and converging lines turn a simple pause beside the lake into an image of companionship and contemplation.

There is something wonderfully calm about this frame. Nothing dramatic is happening, but the shared stillness gives it emotional weight.

29 June — Between Two Worlds

A silhouetted figure sits inside a dark room, looking at a phone beside an open window, while people gather on the brightly lit terrace beyond. The contrast between interior shadow and exterior light creates a layered image of connection, separation and modern solitude.
