A Splash of Colour on a Grey Day - While everything seems to remain in its winter slumber, I caught this unexpected visitor today, a Rose-ringed Parakeet. These birds are a tropical flash of neon in an otherwise dormant, monochrome landscape.

This 365 project is about training my eye to see what is usually overlooked, and finding this "exotic local" in the middle of a grey February forest is the perfect reminder that the world is more diverse than we notice when we’re in a rush.

The Workflow: Following the "Logic Loop"

When I spotted this parakeet in the canopy, I didn’t have time to overthink; I had to rely on my established Wildlife Logic Loop.

I shoot in Aperture Priority (Av) with Auto-ISO as my "jack-of-all-trades" default. This ensures I am always ready for a surprise appearance with a fast enough shutter speed to freeze the action. By trusting the camera to float the ISO, I can focus entirely on the Record Shot—capturing that vital first frame before the subject disappears. Once that safety shot was "in the bag," I moved into the creative phase to protect the highlights on those vibrant feathers.
