Alpine Noir - Cheers to finishing month one! To celebrate, I headed out into the Southern Alps to capture this local giant. I’ve gone for a black and white edit today because the contrast between the dark treeline and the bright, snowy peaks was just too good to pass up. There’s something lovely about the silence of the mountains when they’re stripped back to just light and shadow. It’s been 31 days of carrying my kit everywhere, and honestly, I’m starting to see the world in frames!

Exit Stage Right - Wildlife photography is 10% skill and 90% being at the mercy of the subject’s whims. Today, this Grey Heron decided I’d seen enough, offering me a graceful wingspread as a parting gift. Not the portrait I planned, but a perfect reminder of the ones that get away.

At the Edge - A small group fishing from the end of the rocks, lines cast into open water. They stand quietly against the scale of sea and sky, focused on something unseen. Somewhere above them, a plane passes through the clouds, easy to miss unless you slow down and look for it.

Connected - Loops of spider silk caught in the afternoon light. Fragile, temporary, and easy to miss unless you slow down.

As the rain fell, I noticed this single droplet forming. The colours in the branch and the soft wash of green behind it held my attention longer than expected. A small pause in the middle of a passing shower — brief, delicate, and easy to overlook.

Morning Stretch - Two mallards drift in the soft morning light. One stretches, wings wide, briefly breaking the calm surface of the water. It’s an ordinary scene, repeated every day, yet never quite the same; light, movement, and timing aligning for a moment before slipping back into routine.
