A recent scientific paper published in PLoS Biol by provided some rather amazing results... Humans are not the only species that can talk!

A decree earlier this month by the ecology and agriculture French ministerial spells bad news for the French wolf population. The decree is about the organisation of wolf hunting for the 2015/2016 season (Official Journal of 2 July 2015).

~60% of the worlds population of the endangered asian elephant (elephas maximus) is found in India, with Karnataka state haralding the largest population. Scientists at NCF collated data to form a distribution map of elephants in Karnataka.
News - Perseverance pays off for Johan!
Photography Johan Georget spent 7 hours waiting for this amazing image of this black rhino at sunset. This is a prime example of creating an image. He put in the effort and time to source location, observe the behaviour of the rhinos going to this watering hole, and waiting for right time. Fantastic pic!
News - Wild tiger 10km from Bangalore?
Forest officials have reported a wild tiger in the fringes of Bannerghatta National Park in the south of Bangalore. This is barely 10km away from city.
News - Floods in Assam, India
The coming of the monsoons in India is associated with good news, particularly with regards to the wildlife after long and difficult dry seasons. However, that is not always the case, and Assam is an example.
Kaziranga
Another trip down memory lane... this time a shoot in Kaziranga Tiger Reserve in Assam, India! :)
I stood by the jeep looking out over the grasslands of Kaziranga in the state of Assam watching some swamp deer and rhinos graze in the distance. It was beautiful! Then suddenly the elephant grass in front of me twitched and out strode a rhino, heading straight at me. I froze as it approached, my muscles tensed as my body prepared for flight. It kept coming closer, too close, was it going to charge? Should I run?
News - Surviving Climate Change
Which countries are most vulnerable to climate change, and which ones are most likely to survive? This is a global issue we should all be working on. India, my current home, is at great risk, among many other developing countries.
News - IUCN Red List up-date!
The IUCN RED LIST list has recently been updated, encompassing 77,345 assessed species, 22,784 of which are sadly threatened with extinction. But it is not all bad news, with an insurgence in the Iberian Lynx population!
Bandipur Madness
Remembering my first trip to Bandipur Tiger Reserve, oh so long ago! :)
We sat in the car with the windows open, holding our breaths and straining our ears to hear it again. It was near pitch dark and forest was deadly silent except for the guttural roars of a tigers mating call from metres away from us.
Gear - My wildlife kit
I am frequently asked about my wildlife kit, what I use, and why. So here you go! :)
Despite natural history being of life long interest to me, it was only after moving to India that wildlife photography developed into one of my main focus areas (pun unintended). I have since spent the subsequent years developing my kit to fit the job. Each lens has it's job and use. :).....
