News - Gators "Film" Their Day
Ok, i'm using the term "news" a little loose here, as this was original posted on National Geographic site in January 2014, nearly two years ago, but I've only just come across it and I think it is awesome! The place a camera on an alligator and see what it does... :) Check out the video! :)
Bandhavgarh; not one but many
There is not one, but many reason why Bandhavgarh National Park is a unique territory for the tiger. My story and experience of Bandhavgarh National Park.
From start to finish #5 - Editing
I am very much a fan of less is more for editing. I try to get the images as close to perfect IN in camera. This speeds up processing, giving me more tine behind camera and less behind a computer!
From start to finish #4 - Importing, backing up & selecting
We have the pictures, now we need to import them onto a computer, make sure they are safeguarded by backing them up and pick which ones we will edit!
Travel - Kerala back-waters
The southern Indian costal state of Kerala is known as "gods own country", and when you visit, the lush and vibrant landscape reflects this. The back-waters of Kerala are a series of brackish lagoons inland from the Arabian see. This wetland paradise is great for birding, as i discovered when i visited, and you can also spot other creatures too! :) Here are a selection of my pictures for you! :)
News - $250 Photo Competition with JungleDragon!
I have previously interviewed the brains behind JungleDragon, a FREE wildlife photography website that I personally enjoy. They are currently running a competition with $250 of prizes up for grabs! You should all check it out! It ends on 30th December 2015, so be quick about it! :) Good luck!
From start to finish #3 - The shoot!
You know where you are going and what you want to shoot, you’ve got all your gear ready and packed; now you have to actually get the shots! Here is a video of the shoot, and under that some tips for you to keep at hand to make sure you get as much as you can from a shoot!
From start to finish #2 - Packing for a trip!
Part 2 of my "from start to finish" series, taking you through the planning, execution and processing of one of my shoots!
So, you know where you are going, and what you want to shoot (see #1 A shot list & location), you now need to pack and prepare accordingly!
From start to finish #1 - A shot list & location
I get asked how I do pretty much everything, so I have decided to share my process, from start to finish, of a shoot. In this example, it is a shoot I am doing at Bandhavgarh National Park in Madhya Pradesh, India.
The first step is to make a shot list and get your location sorted!
Travel - Sinharaja, Srilanka
These images where shot over a weekend at Sinharaja Forest Reserve is a national park and a biodiversity hotspot in Sri Lanka. It was a fantastic place and one I would love to go back and spend more time there!
News - Spotted in the news
A recent paper in PLoS ONE by Vidya Athreya et al., used an innovative method to examine Leopard populations in the Indian state of Karnataka. They searched local media sources for any mentioned leopard-human incidents and applied modelling methods to draw conclusions. Their data showed that "leopards occupied around 84,000 km2 or 47% of the State’s geographic area, outside designated national parks and wildlife sanctuaries".
Storytelling by Prasenjeet Yadav
I think this title deserves Pro-tips rather than quick tips, but anyway. National Geographic Explorer Prasenjeet Yadav shares his experiences and thoughts about being a storyteller. He once told me, “an image has a shelf-life, a story will last forever”. I cannot agree more! :) So please, take the time to read his views, take notes, get out and start your own stories! You can check out a sample of his work at the bottom of the piece.
