Vultures of the Verdon
During a visit to the Gorges du Verdon, I had the chance to photograph some of the area’s most impressive birds: the Griffon Vultures that soar along the dramatic limestone cliffs.
Watching them glide effortlessly on the thermals was a real highlight. Some passed close enough to capture feather detail and expression, while others worked better as part of the wider landscape, showing just how perfectly these birds belong to the Verdon.
There was also a brief sighting of an Egyptian Vulture, a much rarer and striking bird, instantly recognisable by its pale body and dark flight feathers. It was only a short encounter, but a memorable one.
For me, these vultures have become one of the defining sights of the Verdon, wild, graceful, and completely at home in this extraordinary landscape.
