In a shallow winter puddle, a single leaf was trapped in ice. At first glance, nothing remarkable. But up close, the scene changed. Warm browns pressed against cold blues, leaf veins echoed frozen fractures, and the ice held the memory of moving water.

I love looking up at night to find the moon, but there is a different kind of wonder when it appears in daylight. A quiet war of attrition between sun and moon, suspended in an endless ocean of blue.

Morning light starting to emerge. It is not often i use my 500mm lens for landscapes.

This was a hard one to catch in the reeds always dodging my autofocus…. and then staring at me all smug. cheeky tit.

And so it starts…. This is day one of taking a photo every day of the year in 2026. This project is not only about getting me back into the habit of making images and sharpening my technical skills, it’s also an opportunity to explore my new local landscape more deliberately. Despite moving to the south of France four years ago, my knowledge of where to find and observe wildlife remains embarrassingly thin. Day one began well — I spotted this little fellow on a morning walk through the park behind my house. Pretty happy with that start; let’s see if I can keep it going…. only 364 to go :)
